My Therapy Services
Prior to our first session, I warmly invite prospective clients to connect with me either over the phone or through telehealth options to discuss their specific needs, address any questions or concerns they may have, and collaboratively develop an outline of what our work together may look like moving forward. If we find that we are a good match, we will schedule our first session from there. This initial consultation is completely free of charge.
IFS Therapy
My work with clients includes utilizing the Internal Family Systems (IFS) framework to better understand our core values, intrinsic motivations, and personal goals. The IFS framework offers more than just quick tips and tricks for developing new and healthier habits. It provides an opportunity to delve deeper, allowing us to uncover the underlying “why” behind our actions and choices. Understanding the root of our behaviors is the crucial first step toward creating lasting and meaningful change in our lives. Together, we’ll embark on a journey to identify each distinct “part” within your that emerges and gain insight into how these parts influence your relationships and daily life experiences. We’ll work collaboratively to make peace with each part, exploring various ways to cultivate more harmony within you as your self-awareness expands and deepens.
Couples Therapy
After our initial consultation, I meet with the couple to develop a comprehensive understanding of the communication patterns that exist between them and to gain insights into what specific aspects they are hoping to change for the better. We take the time to review their life stories and family histories, reflecting on how these past experiences are currently affecting their relationship dynamics. Through this enlightening process, we uncover their underlying motivations, hopes, and intentions, while collaboratively setting a clear course for moving toward a relationship style that meets the diverse needs of each partner.
I typically meet with most couples on a weekly basis or as needed to ensure that we are effectively addressing and progressing toward their therapeutic goals. I integrate valuable tools from various approaches, including Relational Therapy, The Gottman Institute, and Internal Family Systems (Intimacy From The Inside Out), to create a safe and nurturing space where communication can occur more authentically. This allows couples to comfortably explore and address the root causes of their challenges, rather than simply repeating detrimental patterns. If clients are also participating in individual therapy with another therapist, I often make it a point to consult with those therapists to better inform our work together and to maximize the effectiveness of our sessions. Additionally, I may suggest reading materials or other psychoeducational exercises for clients to engage in outside of our therapeutic sessions, so that growth and progress can be practiced and discussed during our time together.
Individual Therapy
After our initial consultation, clients are welcome to schedule an intake session where we can gather more in-depth information about their specific circumstances. Following this thorough evaluation, I typically see most clients on a weekly basis to ensure consistent support, although I'm always able to adjust the frequency of our sessions as needed based on individual preferences and progress. My approach to each client is uniquely tailored to address their specific needs and goals, often drawing on a combination of research, relevant literature, and opportunities for ongoing learning through local workshops. These supplementary resources serve to enhance and extend the therapeutic experience beyond our weekly appointment, providing additional support and growth as desired by the client.
Family & Child Therapy
My work with families and children includes a thoughtfully designed combination of therapy sessions that begin with parents only, progress to sessions that involve both children and parents together, and also include individual sessions with children on their own. For families who have adult children, we strive to meet together as regularly as possible, and we carefully integrate individual sessions into our work when it feels necessary and beneficial. Parent coaching and psychoeducation are vital components of my work and consistently lead to the best possible outcomes for families. Older children, particularly those in middle school through to college, tend to benefit from having individual sessions with me more frequently, while parent communication remains an essential and ongoing part of our work together. In the context of adult parent-child relationships, I often collaborate with individual therapists to ensure that we align our therapeutic goals for the most effective and supportive experience.
Professional Collaboration
Collaborating closely with a diverse range of fellow providers, including pediatricians, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, licensed social workers, educators, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and various other healthcare professionals, is an enriching and invaluable component of the therapeutic process. This multidisciplinary approach not only enhances the quality of care but also ensures a more comprehensive understanding of each individual’s needs. Referrals to these professionals may be made upon request to support this collaborative framework.
